We have expert horse racing betting tips for the New Zealand racing cards this Saturday at Pukekohe and Trentham.
Plenty of value is available with bookmakers at the NZ meetings, and we have our best bets across the two cards.
Pukekohe racing tips
—
Race 2. (9:50) Auckland Co-Op Taxis 3YO (1400m)
#4 – Mary Shan @ $1.95
Mary Shan has been facing tougher fields than she faces on Saturday, so punters should be confident.
The three-year-old filly by Almanzor ran fourth behind Karman Line in stakes company last start, so that bodes well.
We expect her to score an overdue win.
Race 4. (11:04) Ellerslie Events Handicap (1400m)
#3 – Me Liberez @ $8.00
Me Liberez is only a one-race winner, but the five-year-old hasn’t been too far away recently.
The son of Turn Me Loose ran fifth at Ellerslie before struggling at touch at Ruakaka, but having those runs under his belt helps.
We expect him to be fighting out the finish at each-way odds.
Race 5. (11:39) Tab NZ BM65 (2100m)
#2 – Asgard @ $3.40
Asgard looked good winning two back at Otaki in heavy conditions before finishing fifth behind Blue Sky at Night.
Running against this level of opposition should be right up his alley, and having Joe Doyle in the saddle helps.
We expect his odds to firm nicely on race day, so lock in the value.
Race 7. (12:47) Jamieson Park Handicap (1500m)
#5 – Devastate @ $4.20
Devastate has been right around the mark throughout his career, including 16 starts for four wins and six placings.
The Andrew Forsman-trained four-year-old owns solid form at the track, and he doesn’t need to improve to beat this field.
Carrying 55kg should make all the difference.

Race 1. (9:32) Tab Odds Surge Every Race Maiden (1200m)
#1 – First Gear @ $3.40
First Gear looks to cap off consecutive second placings, and we thought he would be shorter with bookmakers.
The two-year-old son of Derryn ran second at Otaki and Woodville, and he chased gamely behind a runaway winner last start.
It’s good enough form to handle this level of racing.
Race 3. (10:38) Majestic Horse Floats Handicap (1400m)
#4 – Rocababy @ $3.50
Rocababy owns two wins from her last five starts, including a win at New Plymouth last time out.
The 1.8-length win in open company bodes well for this contest, and getting in with 55kg on her back adds to her appeal.
Having Lisa Allpress in the saddle is another reason to be confident.
Race 4. (11:15) Happy 65th Peter Lissington Maiden (1300m)
#1 – Linara @ $3.80
Linara owns three placings from three starts, including a fresh up third placing at Woodville.
The three-year-old colt by Lonhro has faced some tricky maiden fields so far, and this isn’t any harder than those.
His odds could firm considerably on race day, so lock in the $3.80 as a value price.
Race 5. (11:48) Lisa Latta Racing Maiden (1300m)
#4 – Charm Zafarm @ $5.50
Charm Zafarm did well to finish second fresh up at New Plymouth, which should be a tidy form guide.
The three-year-old has yet to win from nine attempts, but she could bring up her tenth run with a win on Saturday.
Barrier four is ideal, and we’re happy with the odds available. We priced her around $4.00.
