Te Rapa racing tips
—
Race 1. (9:55) Aon Insurance Brokers 3YO (1600m)
#7 â Tomodachi @ $2.50
Tomodachi comes off consecutive wins at Taupo and Matamata, and that form checks out nicely.
The three-year-old filly by Tarzino is bred to handle this level of racing, hence the shortening betting odds.
Having Warren Kennedy in the saddle adds to her appeal.
Race 3. (11:05) Decise Electrical & Control BM75 (1300m)
#3 â Lord Donovan @ $5.00
Lord Donovan has been threatening to win a race this preparation, and he now gets conditions to suit.
The John Wheeler-trained five-year-old looked good when winning three consecutive races last prep, so anything close to that is good enough.
Dropping in weight helps his chances.
Race 4. (11:42) Cambridge Equine Hospital (2400m)
#2 â Roederer @ $6.50
Value is with Roederer, who hasnât been the most consistent type, but he won well two back.
The son of Turn Me Loose won at Ellerslie in fine style before finishing sixth behind Jolted, which is a nice form guide.
We expect him to be right around the mark with Michael McNab in the saddle, who has been riding well this season.
Race 5. (12:16) Inglis Sales Breedersâ Stakes (1200m)
#1 â December @ $4.20
December knows how to win races after posting three wins from five career starts.
The three-year-old gelding by Shamexpress won at Taupo last time out when beating Witz End, which was considered good enough to go to Australia.
The form bodes well, and punters get each-way odds.
Wanganui racing tips
—
Race 1. (10:10) Wanganui Owners Association BM75 (1200m)
#2 â Idyllic @ $5.00
It wasnât an idyllic run from the favourite last start, but sheâs good enough to bounce back.
The five-year-old mare by No Nay Never owns three wins and four placings from 14 starts, so her consistency canât be called into question.
Itâs an even field and sheâs the best of them.
Race 2. (10:45) Carpet Maintenance Handicap (1200m)
#2 â Wewillrock @ $2.60
Wewillrock was good enough to go to Australia last preparation, so heâs good enough to win at Wanganui.
The son of El Roca got back to form with a second placing at Otaki in heavy conditions, and heâs the best runner in this field.
Getting the inside draw helps his chances.
Race 3. (11:20) Commdives NZ 3YO (1340m)
#5 â Fashion Icon @ $3.80
Fashion Icon has been around the mark throughout her career, including three wins and a placing from eight starts.
The three-year-old filly by U S Navy Flag meets a small but talented field, and she shouldnât be too worried by it.
Take the odds before they shorten on race day.
Race 5. (12:28) Smart Naturals Handicap (2040m)
#1 â Marroni @ $8.50
Class is with Marroni, who owns seven wins and nine placings from 35 starts.
He might be struggling to show his best form in two runs back from a spell, but he was always going to need the runs.
Now itâs time to strike, and punters can lock in value odds.
