Matamata racing tips
—
Race 2. (12:44) Ancroft Developments Spec Maiden (1400m)
#4 – Provence @ $3.40
Considering this is a special conditions maiden, Provence winning her last two starts is ideal form.
The four-year-old could take advantage of the grade by winning another race, having won at Taupo and Te Rapa this prep.
Getting barrier two adds to her appeal.
Race 3. (13:18) Rich Hill Stud BM65 (1200m)
#1 – Brave Spirit @ $6
Brave Spirit has made a good start to his career, including a win and three consecutive placings.
The four-year-old son of Swiss Ace is getting close after two solid runs behind some smart types this season.
Getting $6 is better than expected, so snap up the value.
Race 4. (13:51) Fairview Matamata Slipper (1200m)
#1 – Move to Strike @ $1.95
Move to Strike won well on debut at Te Rapa before placing at Pukekohe behind Bellatrix Star.
That’s excellent form for this level of racing, and we’re not surprised by the money coming for the favourite.
Te Akau knows how to get them ready and he’s the clear top pick.
Race 6. (15:00) Lisa Chittick Plate (1400m)
#2 – Fashion Shoot @ $4.60
Fashion Shoot is already a two-time winner this campaign and we fancy her chances of winning again.
The six-year-old mare by Savabeel has yet to win from four attempts at Matamata, but the locally trained runner has been close with three placings.
The each-way odds are too good to pass up.

Otaki racing tips

Race 1. (11:30) Cavallo Farm & Chris Rutten Bloodstock 3YO (1600m)
#2 – Solidify @ $4
Since Solidify went to Australia, he hasn’t come back as the same horse. However, we’re prepared to give him another chance.
The three-year-old colt showed too much ability as a youngster to ignore, and getting the inside draw adds to his appeal.
We expect him to bounce back in fine style.
Race 2. (12:10) Vets on Riverbank BM65 (1600m)
#8 – Tavi Ann @ $3.90
Tavi Ann is better for her fresh up run at Otaki, and she ended last preparation with a win.
The Allan Sharrock-trained mare has yet to fire in two starts at Otaki, but this race looks right up her alley.
She has been met with solid betting support, which is a good sign.
Race 4. (13:28) Harcourts Otaki BM75 (2200m)
#7 – Infer @ $3
Infer owns two wins and three placings from seven starts, including a win at Matamata last time out.
There is little wrong with his form, and the four-year-old looks set to rise through the grades following his 2.8-length victory.
His odds are shortening, so take the value now.
Race 5. (14:03) New World Otaki St Leger Trial (2300m)
#4 – The Underbelly @ $2.60
The Underbelly is shooting for four consecutive wins after winning at Otaki, Trentham, and Wanganui.
He’s a course specialist with three wins from four attempts, and there’s no reason to jump off his back.
Rising in distance is not an issue, so his odds are justified.
