Wingatui racing tips
—
Race 1. (9:52) Lorraine Anderton Memorial BM65 (1600m)
#1 – Smooth Operator @ $4.40
Smooth Operator owns three placings from his last four starts, so the four-year-old gelding is the one to beat.
The son of Turn Me Loose has yet to race at Wingatui, but the track should suit his running style. We’re happy to include him in selections.
Race 3. (11:00) Property Brokers Ray Kean BM75 (1400m)
#4 – Sestina @ $5
Sestina comes off consecutive wins at Ascot Park and Wingatui, so the odds are better than expected.
The four-year-old mare won by 3.8 lengths last time out, and although that came in heavy conditions, it was a tidy performance.
We expect her to be fighting out the finish.
Race 4. (11:35) Gallagher Insurance Handicap (1200m)
#2 – Emanon @ $4
Emanon is a professional 10-time winner from 55 starts, including two wins from her last five starts.
The experienced five-year-old has done a lot of racing throughout her career, including a win and four placings at Wingatui.
Getting 3kg off her back is a bonus.
Race 5. (12:10) Dunedin City Motors Dunedin Guineas (1500m)
#1 – Hakadecree @ $4.60
Hakadecree has yet to do anything wrong throughout his career, including two wins and two placings.
The three-year-old ran second behind Aberlour last time out, which was a tidy effort in defeat behind a smart type.
Punters get value odds to snap up.

New Plymouth racing tips
—
Race 1. (10:40) Jesse Langdon Builders Maiden (2000m)
#10 – Celtic Echo @ $2.70
Celtic Echo is overdue a winning effort after posting four placings from eight starts.
The four-year-old mare by Echoes of Heaven ran fourth at Wanganui last start behind Roulade, which should be a good form guide.
Having Matthew Cameron riding helps.
Race 2. (11:15) Energy Vets Taranaki Maiden (1400m)
#1 – El Viento @ $3.50
El Viento broke maidens when scoring by a half-length at Matamata, and he looks good enough to kick on with it.
The Te Akau-raced gelding by El Roca gets the services of Opie Bosson, and he needs a good ride from out wide.
Look for any race day betting support.
Race 3. (11:50) Hirepool BM65 (1400m)
#5 – Terra Preta @ $4.40
Terra Preta won well at New Plymouth two starts back before running second at Trentham.
The four-year-old mare couldn’t take advantage of racing in the special conditions maiden, but she’s good enough to win in this grade.
Getting the inside draw adds to her appeal.
Race 4. (12:23) McCurdy Trucks Handicap (1400m)
#5 – Shamus @ $2.50
Shamus owns six wins from 12 starts, including two over the distance, so he has class on his side.
The five-year-old son of Shamexpress deserves to be the favourite, and money could come for him late in the piece.
Ryan Elliott is an aggressive rider, which should help his chances.
