2024 New Zealand Oaks Form Guide & Tips
(1) Pulchritudinous ($9.00)
That was a strong win last time out and we’re not leaving her out of calculations.
She looks like a dour staying type, which is usually good enough to win the New Zealand Oaks.
(2) Positivity (Best Each Way – $7.00)
Another last-start winner and there is good value with her each-way odds.
She won well at Ellerslie, and form out of headquarters should hold up nicely in Trentham.
(3) Chantilly Lace ($35.00)
Her form last preparation was much better than her form this time in. We’re happy to leave her out of our Oaks picks.
(4) Harlow Rocks ($16.00)
Never too far away from the mark, but we would have liked to have seen more from her last time out.
She’s a solid first four pick, and the connections have a lot of success winning the Oaks, hence the name.
(5) Qali Al Farrasha (Best Bet – $4.20)
Second behind Positivity last time out, but she was crying out for more ground.
She’s the worthy favourite and having Opie Bosson in the saddle adds weight to her chances.
(6) Still Bangon ($5.00)
She has been well-backed to win at each-way odds, and we’re not leaving her out of our selections.
Her form has been around the better types in this field, and staying the distance shouldn’t be a worry for the daughter of Satono Aladdin.
(7) Livid Sky ($9.00)
Another runner at single-figure odds following solid form. However, she hasn’t been winning, and that worries us in a race like this.
(8) Bozo (Best Roughie – $26.00)
She is a past race winner at Trentham and that can’t be overlooked. Drawing wide over 2400m isn’t a big deal.
Take the odds available.
(9) Race Ace ($21.00)
She has been battling nicely this preparation, including a win three back followed by two placings.
We think she’s a chance to finish in the first four.
(10) Sign of Peace ($20.00)
Yet to run worse than third from five starts, but she might need another campaign under her belt to cope with this level of racing.
(11) Love Janie ($34.00)
Won well two back and we don’t think she’s a genuine Group 1 contender.
(12) Moonlight Magic ($16.00)
Consistent but yet to win a race. At shortening odds, which makes her an interesting type.
(13) Wren ($34.00)
Not the most consistent type going around, and it’s unlikely she’ll win.
(14) Call a Friend ($23.00)
She turned her form around with a win, but going back-to-back at this level could be a stretch too far.
(15) Cupid’s Arrow ($23.00)
In good hands, but there are a few better bets in this field. Watch for any late tote support.
(16) Sheaf ($41.00)
Had every chance to beat an easier field last start. She failed to make any impression.
(17) Saxs ‘N’ Silks ($41.00)
Not recent form to speak of, so we can’t see her winning.
(18) Sol De Otono ($31.00)
Better last time out but being a maiden runner makes it tough.
(19) Justify That ($51.00)
Big odds and she’s unlikely to win.
