NZ Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) La Crique (Best Bet – $3.00)
She got back to her best form with a win at Otaki, and she loves racing at Ellerslie with four starts for two wins and a placing.
When she’s at her best, they won’t beat her, so we’re happy to put her on top.
(2) Mustang Valley ($5.50)
Second behind Fashion Shoot fresh up, but she has always been a wet track performer.
Conditions should be in the soft range, which isn’t too bad, so we’re including her in our selections, but her best form needs to return.
(3) Belclare ($9.00)
A good winner two back, but her lack of consistency has always been a worry.
This is a tough Group 1 field, and she doesn’t enter our calculations this time around.
(4) Fashion Shoot ($15.00)
Got the better of Mustang Valley last time out, but she has always been a level below the best mares in New Zealand.
Opie Bosson rides, but we can’t see her featuring.
(5) Maria Farina ($27.00)
She likes Ellerslie and she owns an explosive 100m turn-of-foot, so if she gets the right run, she can sprint past them.
A dangerous runner, and we’re surprised at the odds, so we’re including her in first four picks.
(6) Pearl of Alsace (Best Each Way – $4.60)
A quality type who was considered good enough to head to Australia.
She kicked off her campaign with an impressive win at Ellerslie, and she’s only going to improve with that run under her belt.
A must-include at the each-way odds.
(7) Town Cryer (Best Roughie – $14.00)
We have been impressed with her recent form, including a win two back and a placing behind Jaarffi last time out at Ellerslie.
This is a rise in class, but money has come for her after opening at $18, so she’s worth including.
(8) Hi Yo Sass Bomb ($15.00)
Scored at Trentham last start, but we think she’s better suited going that way around.
A heavy track specialist, and conditions might not be in that range on Saturday.
(9) Karman Line ($23.00)
A two-time winner this preparation, but she also returned a positive drug sample for her fresh up performance.
That’s always a concern, and although she’s smart on her day, they might be too classy for her.
(10) Blissful Belle ($41.00)
Capped off consistent form with a win, but it didn’t come at this level. She’s likely to struggle.
(11) Gentian Blue ($67.00)
Kicked off her preparation with two wins. Fifth behind Hi Yo Sass Bomb at Trentham, and that’s not the best form guide.
(12) Grail Seeker ($9.00)
The Wellington Guineas winner and dropping to 54kg helps. A quality filly in the making, who could figure in the finish.
