2024 NRL Season Predictions
—
2024 NRL Premiership Winner – South Sydney Rabbitohs
We think the Panthers will be tough to beat, but there is no value with the $3.75 odds, and their winning run should come to an end sooner or later.
Our pick are the South Sydney Rabbitohs, who have a good-looking team in 2024, which was boosted by the addition of Jack Wighton.
The former Dally M Medal winner strengthens the team considerably, and they didn’t lose many players in the off-season.
Punters get $9.50 for the Rabbitohs, which is too good to pass up.
Bet: South Sydney Rabbitohs @ $9.50
2024 NRL Premiership Winner Value Bet – North Queensland Cowboys
The North Queensland Cowboys have the roster to win the NRL premiership, and it’s about time they put it all together.
Jake Clifford returns from Super League, and he’s joined by Thomas Mikaele and Viliami Vailea as new signings.
The core of the Cowboys is excellent, so there is plenty of upside for the Cowboys, who are way over the odds at $15.
We’re taking those odds, which we expect to firm considerably throughout the week.
Bet: North Queensland Cowboys @ $15
2024 NRL Premiership Long Shot – New Zealand Warriors
Taking the New Zealand Warriors to win the competition was never resulted in a win, but we saw inspiring scenes last year.
The Warriors were terrific in 2023, and they could have gone further had Shaun Johnson not injured himself late in the year.
However, 2024 could be fruitful as new signing Kurt Capewell brings premiership-winning experience. Returning to the Warriors are Chanel Harris-Tavita and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.
The latter was at the top of his game before trying his hand at rugby, which didn’t work out. He’s back in the NRL, and he gives the Warriors a much-needed boost.
Bet: New Zealand Warriors @ $23
2024 NRL Top Tryscorer – Alex Johnson
Alex Johnson is always a value bet in top tryscorer markets. He’s a $7.50 favourite, which is still a good price from bookmakers.
The Rabbitohs winger knows how to cross the line with regularity, and he should get plenty of scoring opportunities with Wighton on his inside.
We thought his odds would be shorter, but there has been money for Warriors’ winger Dallin Watene Zelezniak.
Bet: Alex Johnson @ $7.50
2024 NRL Wooden Spoon – Wests Tigers
The Dragons are favourites to win the wooden spoon at $3.25, but the Wests Tigers are usually the best bet.
They haven’t made any signings that inspire us, and they have lost the likes of Luke Brooks and Daine Laurie, so it’s hard to find any positives for them.
We expect the Tigers to struggle once again.
Bet: Wests Tigers @ $3.50
2024 NRL Team Previews
Brisbane Broncos:
The Broncos had the 2023 NRL Premiership in the bag before losing their way in the final 20 minutes of the Grand Final.
Bouncing back from the heartbreak won’t be easy, but they still have a roster good enough to go all the way, so don’t leave them out of selections.
Canberra Raiders:
We don’t rate Ricky Stuart as a very good coach, and the fact that Jack Wighton left the club is telling. Their odds are big to win the premiership, and we advise betting against the Raiders.
Canterbury Bulldogs:
The Bulldogs are a $46 chance with bookmakers, which is tough to disagree with.
They have some quality players, but they aren’t a winning organisation, so we expect them to miss the playoffs.
Cronulla Sharks:
There has been some support for the Sharks at $21, and they could sneak into a top six position.
They played well last season for the most part, and Nico Hynes is one of the more exciting playmakers in the NRL.
Dolphins:
The Dolphins did better than expected in their first season, and they have a squad good enough to make the playoffs.
They are $51 to win it all, but we are entertaining their chances for a top eight position. Coach Wayne Bennett can do anything
Gold Coast Titans:
The Titans are a tough team to follow with confidence. They look great one day and terrible the next, so we’re happy to overlook their chances.
At $51, they aren’t being respected by bookmakers, so just making the top eight would be considered an achievement.
Manly Sea Eagles:
We always like to give the Sea Eagles a chance, and the $23 odds could be worth including.
They have the players needed to make a deep playoff run, including Daly Cherry-Evans and the Trbojevic brothers. However, they need to stay healthy.
That’s all that stops Manly from winning.
Melbourne Storm:
Melbourne is on the third line of betting and it’s not hard to see why.
The Storm have a quality team, as always, and Craig Bellamy is ready for another successful season as the head coach.
Expect nothing short of a top four finish.
Newcastle Knights:
There has been steady outside betting support for the Knights, who showed improvement in 2023.
However, winning the premiership could be too tough. Kayln Ponga is an elite player, but he can’t do it all by himself.
A legitimate top eight chance, but that’s about their best chance.
New Zealand Warriors:
We expect big things from the Warriors, whose fans are desperate for an NRL premiership.
They have the players, and they recruited better than most teams, so we’re giving them a chance at value odds.
North Queensland Cowboys:
Expectations should be high for the Cowboys, who don’t always live up to expectations, but that could change this year.
They have all the makings to win the NRL, and they have experienced players at the crucial positions.
Parramatta Eels:
The Eels are known to start well before hitting the wall when the playoffs approach. We expect something similar in 2024, and the $23 available is too short for our liking.
Penrith Panthers:
The NRL premiership favourites having dominated the competition over the last few years.
Worthy contenders, and it’s tough to find any negatives about their team. The only negative is the short odds available, which could be too short to take given how hard it is to win in the NRL.
South Sydney Rabbitohs:
Our top pick to win the competition. They have an excellent roster, which improved in the off-season.
There is no reason why the Rabbitohs can’t reestablish themselves as one of the premier teams in the NRL, so take the odds.
St George-Illawarra Dragons:
It will be a long year for the wooden spoon favourites, who could give up the ghost at the midway stage of the season.
Sydney Roosters:
The Roosters are always well-backed to win, and they always have a good chance of winning.
It’s another quality team on paper, including James Tesesco, Brandon Smith, and Luke Keary. Our worry is that nothing new has hit the team, and they are getting on the older side.
Wests Tigers:
Our pick to win the wooden spoon. It’s not easy being a Tigers fan, and another long year is ahead.
