Super Rugby Pacific Round 5 Tips

Friday 22/3/24
5:05pm Hurricanes vs Rebels @ Central Energy Trust Arena
The Hurricanes dug deep to beat the Crusaders last week, remaining unbeaten after three games.
We can’t see them being tested by the Rebels, who were thumped 53-26 by the Reds last week, despite making a comeback in the first half.
It comes as no surprise to see the Hurricanes heavily favoured at –15.5, and that line has been well-backed throughout the week. Grab it before it becomes –16.5.
Betting tip: Hurricanes –15.5 @ $1.75

7:35pm Brumbies vs Moana Pasifika @ GIO Stadium
The Brumbies produced the goods against the Highlanders last week, winning 27-21, and that momentum should carry over against Moana Pasifika.
Highlighted as the leading Australian team, the Brumbies have plenty of talent in the backline, and they could be too much for the visitors.
The Pasifika won well against the Force, but the Force are terrible, and we can’t see them keeping it close on Friday night.
Betting tip: Brumbies –12.5 @ $1.90

Saturday 23/3/24
12:05pm Fijian Drua vs Waratahs @ Churchill Park
As they showed when beating the Crusaders at Churchill Park in Round 3, the Drua aren’t to be underrated at home.
They won that game in fine style before losing heavily to the Chiefs last week, but that was to be expected.
They now face the Waratahs, who narrowly lost to the Blues, so it won’t be an easy victory for the home side, who are the $1.54 favourites.
We can’t take that price for the Drua, so take the $2.37 for the ‘Tahs.
Betting tip: Waratahs @ $2.37

2:35pm Chiefs vs Highlanders @ FMG Stadium
The Chiefs are the best New Zealand team this year, and they showed it when beating the Drua 46-29 last week.
It was a high scoring affair, and they could put up a similar number against the much-improved Highlanders, who lost a close game to the Brumbies.
There is no doubt the Highlanders are better in 2024, but the Chiefs are on another level, and they should cover the big spread at home.
Betting tip: Chiefs –13.5 @ $1.90

5:05pm Blues vs Crusaders @ Eden Park
It goes from bad to worse for the Crusaders, who have fallen off a cliff with their new coach.
Not only are they winless, but they lost Owen Franks to suspension during the week, so we don’t see them beating the Blues in Auckland.
The Blues have much more upside, and although they are $1.37 favourites, we’re surprised by the –5.5 line. We thought they would have been around –7.5, so we’re taking the line before it moves throughout the week.
Betting tip: Blues -5.5 @ $1.90

7:35pm Force vs Reds @ HBF Park
There isn’t much force happening with the Force, who are likely to suffer another disappointing loss.
They were beaten by Moana Pasifika last week, and that’s not a loss any team wants on their record.
The Reds have been playing much better, and considering they put 53 points on the Rebels in Round 4, a similar effort is expected to end Round 5.
Betting tip: Reds –11.5 @ $1.90
